The Affair That Wasn’t

A husband started coming home late in the evenings, and his wife suspected an affair. Surveillance showed that he was secretly driving a taxi on the side because he was ashamed to admit they were short of money…

Both women and men often come to us suspecting their partner of infidelity. There is usually no direct evidence — just small things that mean nothing on their own but together give no peace:

  • coming home late;
  • paying more attention to appearance;
  • new things;
  • meetings with acquaintances who weren’t around before;
  • passwords on the phone.

Doubts are exhausting: a person keeps winding themselves up, the couple quarrel more and more often, and there is no one to talk to about it — the subject is too delicate even for close friends.

Coming Home Late

One woman came to us with exactly these doubts. Lately her husband had often been staying late and coming home late, and this worried her a great deal. She asked us to find out whether an affair was behind it.

Surveillance

The detectives studied the husband’s daily routine, contacts and routes and kept him under surveillance for several days in a row: one evening is not enough to understand where and why a person goes. At first there was nothing suspicious: he really was working at his job. But in the evening, after work, he didn’t go home — he went somewhere else.

Soon everything became clear — and not at all in the way the wife expected. The husband was driving a taxi on the side. He was ashamed to admit that the family was short of money and had decided to support the budget secretly.

The truth turned out to be not a verdict on the family but its salvation.

Relief

When she received the evidence, the woman felt enormous relief: her fears had not been confirmed. Her husband’s secret was not an affair but care for the family, however clumsy. She thanked us for helping to save her family.

Why Not to Stage an Interrogation

When suspicions build up, you want to find everything out directly: check the phone, make a scene, demand explanations. But an interrogation without facts almost always ends in a quarrel: the guilty will deny everything, and the innocent will be hurt by the distrust. In this story, a head-on conversation could only have done harm: the husband was ashamed of his side job and would hardly have admitted it right away. A calm check gave the answer without breaking up the family.

A Check Works Both Ways

We not only uncover infidelity but also confirm its absence. If suspicions are keeping you from living, it is better to get an accurate answer than to torment yourself for months: the truth will either take a weight off your mind or give you solid ground for a decision.
