Our agency was approached by a mother: several months earlier her daughter had disappeared, and there had been no news of her since. At first the mother went to the police. They carried out a brief check and advised her to wait: the daughter was an adult and had perhaps simply decided to disappear for a while. But time passed, the worry grew, and the mother realized she could not wait any longer.
Her Circle
The detectives started with the girl’s circle: her contacts, the places she went, how she spent her free time. We met with her friends and acquaintances many times to reconstruct the last days before she disappeared. Gradually a chain of events came together from the fragments.
One of her friends said that just before the disappearance they had planned to go to another city to work — together with a girl they did not know. Where exactly, and how true this was, remained unclear, but the lead had to be checked.
A Bitter Discovery
The lead was confirmed. We established which city the daughter and her friend had gone to and went there straight away. The girl was found — but the news we brought her mother was far from what she had hoped for: in the other city her daughter had been drawn into the sex industry.
The mother was shaken but did not lose her head. We handed her all the materials we had gathered, and she decided to go for her daughter herself and bring her home.
Even an adult child never stops needing attention and care.
What to Prepare for a Search
If someone close to you has gone missing, gather everything you know about them: a recent photo, phone numbers, social media pages, the names of friends and acquaintances, the places they went. Recall your last conversations: what the person talked about, what they planned to do, whom they wanted to meet. In this story, the key turned out to be a friend’s words about going away for work — a detail that was easy to miss.
Don’t Wait
This story is a reminder to all parents: coming of age does not mean that a child no longer needs help. If an adult daughter or son has disappeared and is not getting in touch, and you are told to wait — don’t. In Russia, the police are obliged to accept a missing person report immediately, and a private search can be run in parallel. Every month of silence takes a person further away, and the traces that could lead to them fade over time.
